In 2018, a huge number of high-budget projects were released, among which there are both frankly failed pictures and those that have exceeded expectations. Today we will look at the top ten blockbusters in which we mention both categories, because if the film has not been collected enough at the box office or it has been smashed to pieces by critics, is this an excuse to refuse to watch? Maybe it is you who will delight him, who knows.
10. Han Solo. Star Wars Tales
The second full-length spin-off of the movie saga is interesting primarily for its excellent cast, especially for Donald Glover, who seems to have been born for the role of Lando Calrissian. Alden Ehrenrike, who played Han Solo himself, looks less convincing, but this role cannot be called a frank failure, which can not be said about the training camp. The studio spent about $ 275 million on production, earning less than $ 400 million worldwide, that is, without actually even paying back on investment, not to mention profit. At the same time, Istorii has mostly positive reviews, so it’s definitely worth watching.
9. The Black Panther
The most tolerant superhero movie turned out to be twofold: on the one hand, it is praised for its good visuals (Marvel doesn’t do otherwise), and on the other, it is blamed for sterility and plot nonsense. Be that as it may, Black Panther is still one of the biggest hits of the year: an impressive $ 200 million budget brought 1.3 billion, and the picture was also included in the list of 10 best films of 2018 according to the American Film Institute.
8. "Jurassic World 2"
The 2015 sequel to the tapes with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead roles showed himself at the box office more successfully: viewers brought 1.3 billion dollars into the piggy bank of the creators, repeatedly increasing their investments. According to the plot on the island of Nublar, inhabited by dinosaurs, a volcano awakens, the eruption of which threatens them with extinction (repeated). Claire Deering and trainer Owen want to save them, but their plans run counter to the intentions of very powerful people. As always, amazing special effects and graphics await the viewer, and the plot is very good.
7. "Pacific Frontier 2"
Another ambitious project that did not meet the expectations of the studio. Collecting less than 300 million at a cost of ~ 160 is a failure, but for the final viewer these figures are not so important. The film turned out to be dynamic, the picture is pleasing to the eye, and the plot does not “explode the brain” with its absurdity. If for some reason you missed Pacific Rim 2, then by the end of the year you still have time to catch up.
6. Rampage
This is a story about a mutagen that, having hit the earth from an orbiting space station, turns several animals into huge monsters. Only a gorilla named George remains peaceful thanks to his friend, the primatologist Davis, whose role is played by Dwayne Johnson. Now they have to save millions of human lives, clearly proving how close the connection between man and animal can be.
5. "Ant-Man and the Wasp"
The sequel to the 2015 superhero blockbuster with your favorite heroes. Charming Scott Lang is serving a house arrest, which he was assigned for a hassle at the airport when he was helping Captain America. At this time, Hank Pym and his daughter are working on a device that will help them return Janet Van Dyne from the quantum world, but everything, of course, is not going according to plan. The second part turned out to be bigger and better than the original, although the characters remained the same: grouchy Hank, sharp in the language of Hope, and stupid, but selfless Scott. The latter needs to do several things at once: return the location of Pym and Hope, who are angry at him for stealing a suit, as well as calmly “sit out” his term and not fall into the hands of the FBI.
4. "Avengers: War of Infinity"
The main Marvel crossover, surpassing which in terms of drama and overall quality will be very, very difficult. Due to the abundance of characters, the plot turned out to be a little crumpled, but this can be understood: if each hero had enough screen time, then the timing would be huge. The blockbuster set several collection records at once, the amount of which exceeded $ 2 billion. This allowed the “Infinity War” to take 4th place in the list of highest grossing films in history. The fight with Thanos will continue in the second, final part, but for now it is possible to build theories about which of the Avengers will survive.
3. "Predator"
This project turned out to be completely different from its predecessors from the "predatory" universe. There is not that seriousness that was in the original with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and there is no that level of “tin” that was in crossovers with Aliens. Oddly enough, but the 2018 Predator is a comedy teeming with jokes below the waist. Not all viewers liked this franchise treatment, so the planned sequels are temporarily frozen.
2. "Aquaman"
Despite the fact that Marvel outright loses the general race for spectator love DC, in 2018 they still managed to slightly rehabilitate themselves thanks to Aquaman. The solo album of Arthur Curry turned out exactly the way they wanted to see him: light, beautiful and dynamic. The graphics, which were scolded by previous DC films, are made according to all the rules: the underwater world is striking in its realism, and breathtaking. Separately, it is worth noting the game of Jason Momoa, which here really revealed itself both as a comedian and as a master of action.
1. "The first player to get ready"
The picture takes place in 2045, where the world, according to the laws of the genre, is on the verge of disaster. Humanity runs away from reality into the virtual world of OASIS, the creator of which hid the Easter egg inside of it. Anyone who finds her will become the owner of his colossal fortune, which is not such a weak motivator. This film is literally saturated with references to famous and dearly beloved projects of the 80s - early 2000s. Here you can easily find curtsies to Terminator, Nightmare on Elm Street, Back to the Future, and many other masterpieces. Steven Spielberg did his best, spending $ 175 million to create the tape, which ultimately brought nearly 600 million.
