Jungle. This word is strongly associated in all with adventures, dangers at every step in the form of various outlandish animals, poisonous snakes and insects. In addition, there may live tribes who are not aware of the modern world, and civilization knows little about them. In general, every inch of the jungle is saturated with risk and breathes adrenaline. It is logical that cinema simply could not pass by this natural phenomenon. Can you imagine how many breathtaking paintings we would have lost otherwise? After all, here you can shoot everything from comedies to horror films. However, an adventure movie holds the palm (or maybe liana) of the championship. Ready to wander through the rainforests in search of adrenaline? Then go ahead - the ten coolest movies about the jungle.
10. The Apocalypse (2006)
Mel Gibson did a great job, taking not only a place in the credits (producer and scriptwriter), but also a director's chair. The film also describes the dramatic events of the 15th century on the Yucatan Peninsula, where the Mayan tribes practiced human sacrifice in order to appease the god Kukulkan. One of the potential victims, nicknamed Lapa Jaguar, manages to escape from a terrible ritual (before captivity, he hid his pregnant wife in a pit). When the hero manages to completely free himself from the villains, a child is already born, and Lapa Jaguara leads his family into the jungle to continue the family. The spectacle turned out spectacular, which is proved by the cashier's notes of movie theaters for $ 120 million (with $ 40 million spent).
9. Novel with a stone (1984)
Back in 1984, the film brought together a box office, even for today's box office - as much as 86 million dollars (the picture cost more than 8 times cheaper). The plot tells the viewer about the young writer Joan Wilder, who dreams of meeting a man who has come down from the pages of his own novels. By the will of circumstances (we are talking about saving the kidnapped sister), Joan finds himself in the Colombian jungle, where he meets his dream in the image of Jack Colton (played by Michael Douglas). The sister eventually succeeds in saving, and Joan and Jack fall in love with each other. Robert Zemeckis really knows how to make a movie!
8. The Treasure of the Amazon (2003)
What do you think, what fees did this film have with "Rock" in the title role? The correct answer is failure. The creators of the picture did not even hit the budget of $ 85 million. However, as you yourself understand, employment in the Dwayne Johnson project seems to whisper to us that it will be cool. The hero of the "Rock" in the story appears in the jungle of the Amazon with the aim of finding and returning home Travis (negligent son of one influential authority). Having easily discovered an unlucky adventurer, Beck (that’s the name of our hero) learns that Travis has already broken firewood and decently got into quite risky business. This is where the fun begins.
7. Anaconda (1997)
And here the cash register is again in full order - the fees are three times higher than spent. A horror film starring Jennifer Lopez sends us into the Amazonian jungle. The storyline unfolds as follows. The film crew plans to make a report about a little-known tribe living on the shores of the Amazon, however, a gigantic anaconda killer and a fanatical person named Saron intervene in the group’s plans. In the process of destroying the snake, Saron in every way interferes with the team members, but in the end the anaconda is killed, and the surviving researchers still find the same tribe.
6.100 days in the jungle (2002)
And again dramatic events, this time in the jungle of Ecuador. Oil company employees from Canada go on a business trip to service and repair the pipeline. In the jungle, they and two other tourists are kidnapped by Colombian terrorists. Knowing the financial capabilities of the oil company, the attackers assign a fabulous amount of money as a ransom for employees - the company clearly did not count on such an impressive figure. The task force, consisting of former CIA workers, comes into action. As a result, oilmen, exhausted by cruel jungle and bandits, gain freedom. By the way, the film is based on a true story.
5. King Kong (2005)
It is unlikely that there are moviegoers who do not know what will be discussed below. By the way, the idea of shooting a picture of the famous giant gorilla was far from new (the original film was shot already in 1933). However, the film crew did not have an idea to shovel the story - the main task was to show the story as fantastic as possible using the most modern cinema technologies. We started with a fantastic budget for 2005 ($ 207 million) and ... everything worked out. Indeed, the key moments of the film look very impressive and make you hold your breath. And the budget as a result has beaten off almost in three times.
4. Outcast (2000)
Who, if not Tom Hanks? Oh, and our old friend Zemeckis is right there. It seems that we are waiting for something really interesting. The plot itself does not carry anything supernatural - the usual clerk of the mail delivery service, Chuck Noland, gets into a plane crash, during which he is thrown out near an uninhabited island along with all the parcels. Our "Robinson" spends alone with nature, himself and his own thoughts for 4 years. Wilson's ball was his best (albeit dumb) friend on the island. As a result, Chuck has already managed to leave the island with the help of the constructed raft. Nolanda picks up a dry cargo ship, and our hero is again at home, where in his absence everything changed upside down. Yes, it was Tom Hanks who was needed here.
3. The Jungle Book (2016)
In fact, this is the fourth full-length adaptation of the eponymous work by Kipling. The picture tells us about life and adventures in the jungle of a boy named Mowgli. And again at the head of the list of tasks for the crew was an ultramodern visualization of animals. And this time it all worked out. Panther Bagheera, tiger Sherkhan, Balu bear and kaa snakes - all of them appeared on the screen as realistic as possible. This is evidenced not only by enthusiastic audience reviews: the film of John Favreau collected nearly a billion dollars in box office receipts and received an Oscar just in the nomination devoted to visual effects.
2. The coast of mosquitoes (1986)
Another box office failed movie. However, as in the previous case, the leading role is far from the last representative of the cinema. Harrison Ford played the role of an eccentric inventor, intending to build an ice factory in an area called Mosquito Coast. The idea was so intrusive that there were constant conflicts on the side of the hero: with his family (the inventor didn’t come to the jungle alone, but grabbed his closest people), the clergy in the person of the priest, and finally with mother nature (in fact, to make ice in the jungle is still somewhat absurd).
1. Jumanji: Call of the Jungle (2017)
Ho-ho, again, our friend "Rock"! What's wrong with the checkout this time? And this time, $ 855 million of rental money is at the box office. The “fault” is not only the excellent selection of actors (Kevin Hart is just what it costs), but also a cool storyline during which four friends playing “Jumanji” in the school basement move across the computer screen and get used to avatars, for which were playing. The actions of the heroes are still controlled by the players (only in reality and in living bodies), but the events are already dictated by Jumanji itself. Friends will in their own skin experience all the risks and dangers of the jungle.
